Pekan OCPD Superintendent Yahaya Othman has today advised the Gerakan Mahasiswa PRU13 students to meet village heads first, before distributing copies of their letter to their residents.
This, Yahaya said, was to avoid any untoward incidents occurring in this parliamentary constituency which is represented by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
He added the police will monitor the situation and advised the university students to also understand the villagers' sentiments.
"Police had received reports over the two incidents and the matter is being investigated," said Yahaya in a text message.
The Pekan OCPD was responding to claims of alleged threats and assault faced by the students reported over the past two days.
Punched and slapped
It was reported on Tuesday that Ekhsan Bukharee Badarul Hisham, 21, was punched and slapped at Kampung Datuk Keramat, Ganchong, while delivering letters on the 13th general election from graduates and undergraduates of various universities.
Yesterday, it was reported that two male students and two female students had complained that five youths on motorcycles surrounded them, with one pointing a machete at them.
The letter contains the message that the upcoming general election is an opportunity for the "BN to reflect on its actions".
"There is nothing wrong in trying out a new government .... If the new leadership does not perform to the people's expectations, then the people can choose BN," the letter reads.
Meanwhile, the chairperson of Gerakan Mahasiswa, Syis Kadir, said his entourage had informed the Kampung Dato' Keramat village head on the first day of arrival.
However, he said they did not inform the headman of Felda Chini 4 prior to their visit there yesterday, which resulted in the machete incident.
Syis added they had informed the police of their visit the night before the Felda Chini incident.
