Will EC throw the book at Papagomo?

YOURSAY 'Will the EC take corrective actions immediately to delete all double voters? Or is it going to delete one by one when exposed by the opposition?'

EC deletes Papagomo's phantom record

your say Starr: This goes to prove that voter's names can be deleted by the Election Commission (EC) easily.

The Papagomo case shows that either the EC has a list of phantom voters which have been input onto the electoral roll or the procedure for deletion and addition is relatively simple and can be done just by the push of a button overnight.

This is contrary to what the EC said previously that any amendment to the electoral roll is a long drawn process and it can't simply add and delete any name.

Clearly, there seems to be inconsistency of sorts between what was said before and what was done in Papagomo's case.

Onyourtoes: Wan Muhammad @ Papagomo was a former police officer who had been suspended from duty and convicted of corruption, and the decision was upheld by the Court of Appeal last year.

What is his status now? Still pending appeal to a higher court or has he been dismissed from the police force?

A convict running a blog - where is his credibility? I guess only the depraved and the nincompoops would ever believe him.

Ong: The fact that there is a slight difference in both the spelling of the name and date of birth of Papagomo indicates that the double registration was deliberate fraud.

It looks like the slight difference was to avoid detection. Surely intentional double registration has to be a criminal offence? Will the EC take action to prosecute the offender?

Anak JB: A convicted crook over graft charges, a double phantom voter and a spin artist. This is the best Umno can come out with to run Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim down.

Umno knows Anwar is the cause of their downfall so it is putting all efforts to cast doubt on his personal integrity.

TehTarik: The deletion of the phantom voter confirms that the primary objective of the EC is to keep BN in power. Holding a fair and transparent election is secondary to them.

Our EC is no better than Zimbabwe's election commission. The top brass of the EC should be sacked for the inability to fulfil their role as custodians of free and fair elections as mandated in the constitution.

Wanderer: The two EC heads are very skilful in covering their crap but when they are asked to check their suspicious and dubious electoral rolls, they are equally quick to spin lies.

They must have inherited this sort of un-Islamic behaviour from their political masters. Prime Minister Najib Razak, if you wish to use the EC to cheat, at least try getting more cunning liars who do not make you looked like an idiot.

Heavywater : How many more double voters are out there? The EC is committing fraud by allowing such things to take place and doing nothing about it.

Bender: I didn't know working for the EC is so easy. You just sit around all day long and wait for someone to find duplicates in the electoral roll, and only then will you lift your finger and press the delete key on your keyboard.

After that, it's back sitting on your bottom again. What a life.

Ahmad Said: One definition of treason is the betrayal of nation's trust or confidence. By this definition, the EC officials who betray the rakyat's trust are guilty of treason.

They are guilty of subverting the course of true democracy by, for example, allowing phantom voters to dilute the votes of the people.

These acts should be considered custodial offences (resulting in jail time) to discourage such despicable acts against our democracy.

Anonymous_3e86: Will the EC take corrective actions immediately to delete all double voters (known as phantom voters) from the electoral roll?

Or is it going to delete one by one when exposed by the opposition? It looks like it's the latter.

Changeagent: The solution to this double voting problem is terribly simple. All police and army officials must produce their civilian ICs when voting.

It is now up to the EC to show whether they have the courage and initiative to implement this change to ensure a level-playing field for both sides of the political divide.

Recognising multiple registrations for certain individuals is a sure-fire recipe for abuses, manipulation and double voting.

OMG!!: If the EC can act so swiftly on this case, why can't it act quickly to clean up the phantom Suluk voters on the Sabah electoral roll? Why is it not acting on the Selangor government's complaint ?

Aiding and abetting Umno to protect its Suluk fixed deposit? Both the EC chairperson and deputy chairperson should be sacked.

Changenow: It is clear proof that the EC is carrying a load of rubbish but calling it an electoral roll.

Army double vote another BN fixed deposit?
