Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui today asked the public not to quickly blame Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) for the current water supply disruption affecting 500,000 residents in the city and Gombak.

He said the disruption was inevitable following a burst pipe in Kampung Melayu Batu Caves, Gombak, which affected water supply in 28 areas in Kuala Lumpur and 55 in Gombak since Wednesday.

NONE "We must be fair to Syabas. The pipe burst because of riverbank erosion following heavy rain for the past few days. If it was negligence on Syabas' part then I will be the first to reprimand them as it is my duty," he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Therefore, Chin urged the public to be patient as Syabas was working to rectify the problem soonest possible.

Meanwhile, Syabas, in a statement, said they expected delays due to the location where the pipe burst and had to defer repair work due to heavy rainfall.

Syabas said they will continue to provide 42 tanker lorries and 525 static water tanks in strategic locations for the convenience of consumers, as well as set up one-stop service centres to address consumer complaints.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur mayor Ahmad Phesal Talib, when contacted, said he was ready to help Syabas in terms of logistics if needed.
