Pakatan Rakyat today said that BN’s plan to file more than 50 election petition in parliamentary and states seats nationwide showed that the ruling coalition, too, distrusts the Election Commission (EC).

NONE “If BN, too, is filing election petitions, then clearly they are also upset with the EC, it shows that the EC has failed,” said PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali ( left ) at a press conference at the PKR headquarters after the Pakatan leadership council meeting this afternoon.

Mustafa said Pakatan will file around 35 election petitions, 18 from PKR, 14 from PAS and three from DAP.

Adding on, PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim said that the election petitions of BN and Pakatan put together will number more than 80, suggesting that something was indeed very wrong with the EC.

“In our election history, there are normally one or two cases, there has never been up to 80 to 90 election petitions.

“This itself is enough reason for the EC (members) to resign due to their negligence and complicity in electoral fraud,” he said.

‘Gov’t capitalising on Agong’s speech’

Asked about the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s speech urging the people to accept the general election results, Anwar said Pakatan appreciated the speech but the alleged electoral fraud could not be ignored.

He also pointed out that it was the norm that the Agong’s speech is prepared by the Prime Minister’s Department and thus the government had attempted to capitalise on it for support.

“Whilst we do appreciate the remarks of the Agong, we also understand the text is prepared by the government and we have a prime minister who is desperate to solicit support from any posible quarter.

“If necessary, we will submit concrete evidence on cases of fraud and mass rigging that must be acknowledged to the Agong,” he said.

Highlighting the failures of the EC, Anwar said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, too, should lodge a police report on the indelible ink that was removable, pointing out that the premier, who voted on polling day, appeared in a photograph that night with his finger devoid of the ink.
