Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) chairperson Badrul Hisham Shaharin has been ordered to appear before the Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court tomorrow, to be charged under the Peaceful Assemblies Act for organising the PJ Black 505 rally on May 25 without giving prior notice.

NONE SAMM and several other NGOs had defied a government crackdown and warnings and went ahead to hold the rally at Padang Timur on May 25, attracting around 70,000 people to the event that lasted until midnight.

The 35-year-old Badrul, or who is better known as Chegubard, is alleged to have committed the offence at 5pm on May 25, under Section 9 of the Peaceful Assemblies Act (PAA) 2012.

The summons issued to Chegubard states that he did not provide the mandatory 10 days’ advance notice to the police before organising the rally.

NONE When met at the PKR headquarters later, Chegubard warned Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that he had fallen into a “trap” set by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“This is a trap set by Najib and Mahathir to destroy your character,” Chegubard said.

“The Umno elections are coming. This is a trap to destroy you,” he added.

He said he had contacted the police to meet him at the PKR headquarters today, after realising he was being sought by them for the past two days.

“Police from the PJ district headquarters were looking for me at my house and my mother’s house,” Chegubard added.
