The Kuala Lumpur leg of the ‘Black 505' rallies can go ahead provided that the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 is complied with, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

"If (PKR de facto leader) Anwar (Ibrahim) plans to have it within the premise of the Act, then police will allow it," he told reporters today.

azlan He was asked to comment on the rally which is being planned, despite the Agong's call for all to accept the results of the 13th general election.

Anwar said yesterday that details of the June 15 rally - whether in a stadium or on the streets - are yet to be decided.

The Act requires that authorities be given 10 days’ notice before any such gathering, while written permission must be obtained from the owner of the planned venue.

In Kota Bharu, deputy district police chief Idris Abd Rafar has reminded the public not to attend the 'Black 505' rally to be held on June 12 as it is "illegal".

He told Utusan Malaysia that the police have yet to receive notification from the organiser, which must be submitted 10 days before the event.

‘Stern action if Agong maligned’

Zahid also said his ministry will take "very stern action" against anyone who maligns the Agong.

On a separate matter, the minister urged the United Nations (UN) to work with the government in addressing the issue of Myanmar refugees entering Malaysia.

He said it is a problem for the government, as the office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Kuala Lumpur has been issuing refugee status cards to these people.

"We don't want to give the impression that Malaysia is very lax (on immigration)," he said.
