The police and the Education Ministry have proposed the use of biometric technology and polygraph tests in all primary and secondary schools nationwide to curb criminal activities and discipline issues among students.

NONE According to Utusan Malaysia , deputy inspector-general of police Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin ( left ) said as a start, 230 primary and secondary schools in Kedah have implemented a system called Student Behaviour Prevention and Monitoring System (SPPTP).

“Although criminal cases involving students are still under control, we need to take preventive steps, including the introduction of SPPTP which was innovated by the Kedah police contingent.

“Through this system, fingerprints or other physical features such as retinal scans (eyeballs) of problematic students will be recorded.

“If there is a certain case, polygraph tests can also be carried out to detect lies,” he was quoted as saying so after launching a police programme at Sungai Petani yesterday.

The data collected, Mohd Bakri explained, will be used by the police and the ministry to monitor the students involved.
