PKR today provided proof that former Indonesian vice-president Jusuf Kalla had sent a letter to the Berita Harian Sdn Bhd group editor on its false report titled "Anwar dapat dana asing lancar Blackout 505" (Anwar obtains foreign funds to launch Blackout 505).

In the three-paragraph letter dated July 18, the former Indonesia vice-president says what was written in the Berita Harian report of June 28 was not the reality.

"In reference to the article that appeared in Berita Harian June 28 on the interview with Al Azharri Siddiq, there is no interview done with the journalist. Azharri came with a letter that eight Malaysian journalists wanted to see me.

"However, I rejected the offer. The meeting on June 1 was just a short meeting arranged by an Indonesian parliament member. What is written in Berita Harian does not portray the reality. Hence, Azharri had apologised to me on this several times," the letter to the daily states.

NONE Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's political secretary Shukri Saad said this showed that Jusuf ( right ) was never interviewed on the issue.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim had threatened to sue Berita Harian for slander that he received foreign funds for the post election rally.

"I have decided to sue the daily for this evil slander. Despite the open explanation by Jusuf in the media, why is the Home Ministry taking months to explain the matter?" Anwar had asked in Parliament earlier this week.

Anwar had, during Question Time, read out a text message from Jusuf, who denied that he had ever made such a statement.

The opposition leader also told Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar to come clean on the status of the investigation into the matter, to clear the air once and for all.

Kepala Batas MP Reezal Merican Naina Merican had asked Wan Junaidi for the status of the investigation into the matter but the deputy minister declined to respond, saying matter pertaining to foreign funds do not fall under his ministry.
