A group of MCA grassroot leaders has launched a campaign to topple president Chua Soi Lek.

NONE It has begun by urging the party's disciplinary board to take action against Chua ( left ) for allegedly defying the party's stand in shunning government posts.

The bone of contention is that Chua is still the Penang Port Commission chairperson.

The Save Party Committee 3.0 and eight division chiefs will send a joint letter to the party presidential council soon, in the hope the council will the order the disciplinary board to impartially investigate Chua, said Wangsa Maju division chief Yew Teong Look at a press conference today.

If this fails, they will consider embarking on the second stage of anti-Chua movement, which is to impeach the president through an extraordinary general meeting (EGM), said the spokeperson for eight division chiefs.

This is first time ever that a complaint on a disciplinary issue has been filed on the president, and the first step towards impeachment, if it happens.

'Presidential council best answer'

Yew said the party constitution was silent on disciplinary action against its president, thus they felt a presidential council would be the best answer for it.

"Since this is related to the president, I hope he would not attend the next round of presidential council meetings. We hope this can be dealt with soon," he said.

As for the impeachment, he said, this can be done if at least one-third  of the central committee members call for an EGM, and the motion can be passed with the simple majority of the delegates attending the meeting.

Seven other division chiefs include: Yap Ke Huat (Kuala Krau),Ng Fook Heng (Padang Besar), Lim Kim Seng (Raub), Hoh Khai Mun (Bentong), Kuan Peng Soon (Teluk Intan), Tan Chong Seng (Kuala Selangor) and Chuah Poh Khiang (Titiwangsa).

Chuah is also the Save Party 3.0 president. This is the third movement organised to “save” the party since 2008.

The earlier save party movement was organised in 2008 and 2010 by Chua's faction to oust ex-president Ong Ka Ting and Ong Tee Keat respectively.

Chuah said the president has defied the decisions passed in the 58th and 59th party annual general meeting.

"I hope the disciplinary board can act impartially, only then can MCA be reborn," he said.

'Committee neutral'

The committee, claimed Chuah, is neutral and has no intention of supporting deputy president Liow Tiong Lai to claim the party's top post.

He also renewed his call urging Chua to further step down as president.

 

Tan Chong Seng, who echoed Chuah's opinion, said Chua should go immediately and that occupying the presidency for even one minute more is too long.

Ng Fook Heng meanwhile said a party without government posts to serve the nation is deemed useless.

"A party without a government post is like (national badminton player) Lee Chong Wei not playing bandminton. If Lee does not play badminton, that means he's useless," he said.
