Speaking at a forum on the audit report at the Karangkraf headquarters today, Ambrin said the audit report is meant to used as a moral tale to be followed.
“It has the story, it has the lessons,” Ambrin said.
He also said that it is not fair to draw conclusions from the report because the report was only a sampling and does not reflect an overall practice.
"Sometimes, the reactions you get from an audit report, you get it from people who have never read the report before.
"When someone says RM2.2 billion is being wasted on security for schools every year, that's not accurate because the sampling was only on 10,000 schools," he said.
Immediate action
He however urged department heads to take immediate action on issues that are raised in the report and not to wait until it is out.
"The people responsible are notified when we audit them. They don't have to wait till the full report is tabled in the Parliament. Take immediate action. Any action taken will be included in the report," Ambrin (left) said.
Meanwhile, DAP publicity chief Tony Pua, who was also one of the speakers at the forum, said that the audit report was like a "60s song that is repeated year after year."
"We hear to the same song every year," he said.
"Sometimes, a doubt emerges in the mind of the people when department heads are silent and don't take action against responsible officers. Is it possible that everyone in the department are colluding and have an interest in these irregularities?" he asked.
"Be mindful that those who are smart in misappropriating money are the people who will plead ignorance or act as though they are stupid and don't know about procedures," he stressed.
