It will not be a loss-making move for government-linked companies (GLCs) to pump more advertising money into Utusan Malaysia as it will advance the use of Bahasa Malaysia as the national language, a BN parliamentarian has said.

NONE Utusan quoted Kepala Batas MP Reezal Merican Naina Merican ( right ) as lauding Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan's order to 35 GLCs to advertise more in newspapers by the Umno-owned Utusan group.

Maslan said this in backing a suggestion first made in September by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"The advertising move is a two-pronged strategy - it allows GLCs to fulfil their public duty and upholds the constitution, which makes Bahasa Malaysia the national language to unite all people," Reezal is quoted as saying.

He said he agreed with Ahmad's statement that GLCs were not advertising enough in Utusan , after he found out that only 3.7 percent of the combined advertising budget of the 35 GLCs went to the Umno-owned daily.

"It's an unfortunate tragedy if GLCs don't understand and obey PM Najib, who has always lauded efforts to reinforce the bumiputera economy," Reezal said.
