Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Aziz Kaprawi today denied that the government plans to implement a policy to limit car lifespans, dismissing the issue as "an opposition speculation".

"The government has no such plan," Aziz told a press conference at the Parliament lobby.

Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) director-general Wong Shaw Voon, who was also at the press conference, said Miros never made an official recommendation to the government to introduce such a policy.

NONE "It was just a crash test we were conducting in Malacca," Wong said.

Yesterday, PKR's strategy director Rafizi Ramli ( right ) and Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin at a press conference at the Parliament lobby criticised any lifespan for cars as adding to the financial burden of the people .

“Because we did not even consider it, there is no question of us using this to collect more tax,” Abdul Aziz said further.

“This is all just Opposition speculation. We will not add to the burden of the rakyat,” he further said.

Wong later said that even he personally would find a proposal to limit the lifespan of cars not to be feasible.

“I don’t think the government would simply implement something like that,” he said.

“There definitely will be a socio-economic impact study done if such a proposal was even being considered. It won’t implemented without such a study,” he added.
