Cops visit Chegubard over price hike rally, but...
A group of police officers paid a late night visit to PKR leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin's house on Christmas Eve to question him, said Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM).
A group of police paid a late night visit to PKR leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin's house on Christmas Eve to question him, said Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM).
However, the police refused to disclose if the visit was related to the Dec 31 rally planned by Gerakan Turun Kos Sara Hidup's (Turun) against price hikes, said the family of Badrul Hisham, also known as Che'gubard.
"When we asked what the intention of the police visit was, and if it was related to the protest on Dec 31 at Dataran Merdeka, the police inspector said he was unsure.
"But he said they were there on instructions from Bukit Aman to 'meet with' Che'gubard ( right )," the family said, according to a statement issued last night by SAMM propaganda director Edy Noor Reduan.
He said two police cars and a van arrived at Che'gubard's house in Bukit Chedang, Seremban, about 11.30pm on Tuesday but left without being able to see him as the PKR leader is overseas.
Edy Noor said the roughly nine officers then headed for his parents' house, and left a note there for Che'gubard to contact the police upon his return.
On Monday, Turun chief Muhamad Azan Safar was arrested over the planned rally, close to midnight, and was released after a 20-hour detention.
SAMM said Che'gubard has promised to contact Bukit Aman, as requested, when he returns tomorrow.
Turun and several other NGOs are planning to hold the rally to protest government policies that have led to a higher cost of living.
Since the 13th general election in May, the administration of Najib Abdul Razak has reduced fuel subsidies and removed subsidies for sugar altogether.
Kuala Lumpur property assessment rates, highway toll charges and electricity tariffs have also been announced to go up next year.
There are also concerns over inflation caused by the impending goods and services tax, which is to come into effect on April 1, 2015.
