Penang Umno assemblypersons are prepared to forgive Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer if he is genuinely honest and sincere and regrets having uttered a derogatory remark against Umno in the state legislative assembly, said Penang opposition leader Jahara Hamid.  

She also asked Rayer not to manipulate the issue of his apologising on the matter.

“Why must Rayer wait for six months (until the next sitting of the assembly) to apologise? If he is a gentleman, he can apologise at any time and place,” she said in a statement today.

Jahara was commenting on a statement made by Rayer yesterday over The Malaysian Insider portal that anyone demanding an apology from him over the remark should make the request at the next sitting of the assembly.

Rayer’s “Umno celaka” (accursed Umno) remark in the assembly on May 20 sparked a trespass of the assembly building by a group of people the following day.

Several NGOs and the Penang Umno Youth also made police reports against Rayer for allegedly having made seditious statements at several ‘ceramah’ (talks) during the campaign recently for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary by-election.  

Jahara also said that Rayer was a timid politician who took refuge in the immunity offered by the state assembly.
