BN snipes at Dyana over interfaith MH17 memorial

MH17 A picture showing DAP member Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud placing flowers surrounded by candles at an MH17 multifaith memorial has fired the imagination of Muslim BN leaders.

Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin retweeted the picture, commenting, “See what has happened to this Malay leader in DAP???”

The picture was retweeted from BN Slim assemblyperson Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib’s Facebook page.

Khusairi uploaded the picture with the comment, “What is this young, Malay DAP member doing?”

“Is she trying to become DAP’s tool to deviate the faith of young Muslim women?” he said.

When contacted, Dyana said she does not understand why the BN leaders are trying to demonise an event to commemorate the victims of downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.

Dyana confirmed that the event took place on Aug 8 at the Leaning Tower Square in Teluk Intan, and pointed out that prayers were conducted by many religious leaders.

‘Not easily confused, Umno’

Defending herself, she said that reciting prayers and merely putting down flowers to mourn the unfortunate cannot jeopardise her faith.

“Maybe those who think it does should reconsider the strength of their own faith.

“I am not easily confused like how Umno leaders always assume we Malay youths are,” she said.

She added that the multi-faith prayers led by Muslim, Christian, Buddhist and Hindu religious leaders were attended by Teluk Intan residents from various backgrounds.

“Also present were leaders such as Pasir Bedamar assemblyperson Terence Naidu as well as Teluk Intan PKR and PAS representatives.

“Events like this make Malaysians understand one another better and bring us together,” she said.

Flight MH17 was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur on July 17 when it was shot down, killing all 298 on board.

The party responsible for the act has not been established, with the Ukrainians blaming the Russian-backed separatists and vice versa.
