Penang BN has chided Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for “attacking” a minor Umno member over remarks made at the Umno general assembly.

Penang BN chairperson Teng Chang Yeow said Lim should instead train his guns on PAS leaders, reported the New Straits Times today.

Teng said Lim had remained “dead silent” when it came to statements made by top PAS leaders such as Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and Abdul Hadi Awang, even though they had openly berated DAP.

“Lim was the first in the entire nation to issue a statement condemning Umno over a remark made by an unknown member.

“He should be bold enough to take Nik Aziz and Hadi to task when the former labeled DAP as a timid child scared by a ghost, and the latter for refusing to abide by the DAP central committee’s resolution to compel him to attend the Pakatan council meeting,” said Teng.

At the general assembly, Penang delegate Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said had said that the Chinese in Penang had gained wealth and power through vices such as gambling and prostitution.

Lim then had urged the police to investigate Mohd Zaidi for criminal defamation and sedition.

Extreme statements

Meanwhile, The Star reports MCA vice president Chew Mei Fun telling the rakyat not to be upset by the speeches of certain Umno members that came across as extreme.

“In a big party like Umno, sometimes there could be members whose extreme statements are misconstrued as the party’s stand,” she pointed out.

“The public should not be too disturbed by such speeches,” she said.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin ( left ), meanwhile, said that he will not go back over his words over Malay rights at the Umno general assembly.

“My speeches are public and the media are free to report it,” said the Umno Youth chief as quoted by The Star.

“I said what I wanted to say. I do not say something and hide behind closed doors,” he added.

Khairy said this in response to PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad’s claims that he was insinuating racial slurs at the assembly while maintaining a liberal stance in public.
