FLOODS The flood situation in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak and Johor has improved by this evening but floods returned to Sabah with several major towns in the state inundated.

As at 4pm, 422 flood victims from 134 families in the districts of Kota Belud and Tawau were evacuated to relief centres.

Kota Belud district officer Abdul Gari Itam said all the evacuees were from 10 villages in the district.

Meanwhile, Sabah Meteorological Department director Abdul Malik Tussin said the weather in Sabah until late tonight was forecast to be cloudy with intermittent rain.   

Tenom and Beaufort were also hit by floods, with more than 400 victims relocated to relief centres.

In Terengganu, the flood situation continued to improve and as at this evening, only Dungun was still affected with 143 victims compared to 2,917 victims at noon, according to Terengganu National Security Council acting secretary Roslina Ngah.

Roslina in a statement said the Terengganu Flood Operations Room was officially closed today following overall improvement in flood situation in the state but the council would continue monitoring it from time to time.   

In Kelantan, the situation also improved with the number of evacuees falling to 26,149 people compared 27,282 at noon.

According to the Kelantan National Security Council, the victims, from 6,469 families, were housed in 140 relief centres in six districts.

Currently, there were 14,184 flood victims in Tanah Merah, Tumpat (124 people), Kuala Krai (5,645 people), Kota Baharu (635 people), Machang (2,555 people) and Gua Musang (3,006 people).

In Perak, the number of flood victims dropped to 7,346 people from 2,013 families compared to 7,513 victims from 2066 families at 49 relief centres in five districts at noon today.

The Perak National Security Council said there were 5,290 victims in Perak Tengah this evening, Kuala Kangsar (891 people), Hulu Perak (758), Manjung (131) and Hilir Perak (276).

In Pahang, the number of flood victims fell slightly to 43,840 people compared to 44,591 people at noon who are housed at 203 evacuation centres in eight districts.

A Pahang police contingent headquarters Flood Operations Room spokesperson said there were 20,962 people seeking shelter in 69 relief centres in Temerloh, followed by Pekan (10,964 people), Jerantut (4,215), Bera (3,313), Maran (2,438), Kuantan (1,074), Lipis (825) and Rompin (49).

In JOHOR, the total number of flood victims dropped to 116 people from 24 families after 23 victims were allowed to return home.
