PKR central leadership council member Fariz Musa was today arrested for his involvement in last Saturday's Kita Lawan rally.

Fariz confirmed in a tweet that he was arrested. He said he was detained under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act and Section 143 of the Penal Code.

His lawyer, Melissa Sasidaran, is now in a meeting with the case investigating officer, identified only as 'Sabri'.

Fariz ( second from left ) who is also NGO Jingga 13 coordinator, had earlier tweeted that he was to be investigated in relation to the huge turnout rally and was asked to be present at the Dang Wangi police station at 10am today.

He was also arrested on Feb 22, together with student activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim, after attending the second Kita Lawan rally that day. The duo spent the night at the Jinjang police station before being released.

Fariz is the third PKR leader held in relation to the fourth Kita Lawan rally.

Selangor state executive councillor and PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and PKR Youth leader Saifullah Zulkifli have also been arrested in connection with organising the rally.

Meanwhile, Melissa also said that police were taking Fariz’s statement in relation to the third Kita Lawan rally that was held on Feb 28.

The police also took the PKR member’s statement in relation to the “red pencil protest”, also under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act.

The Movement of Angry Media (Geramm) had organised the red pencil protest in early January last year, in support of media freedom.
