Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's blog - Chedet - was temporarily inaccessible and speculation is rife among netizens that this is due to his article critical of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

When accessed in the afternoon, the site displayed a message saying ‘the account had been suspended’.

The article, which was posted by Mahathir, could be read elsewhere as it is shared by the Facebook page ' Saya Sayang Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad '.

Among others, the Mahathir's article questioned the source of Riza Aziz's wealth. Riza is Najib's stepson.

Mahathir had questioned how he could afford luxury properties in New York and fund Hollywood films.

He also said 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) should not just be subjected to an audit by the auditor-general but a forensics probe by the police.

The former prime minister added that if these controversies are not resolved, it could result in BN losing the next general election.

Later today, Mahathir's aide Sufi Yusof said the website had experienced heavy traffic, resulting in the suspension.

"The administrator is doing remedial work as we speak," he said, according to Staronline .

When contacted, the website's host declined comment.

It wasn't until hours later that Mahathir's blog could be accessed again.
