Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua whose tweet was highlighted by Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar yesterday said he deleted the tweet because Khalid did not understand the meaning behind it.

“I deleted the tweet because the IGP did not understand. Better to delete right, if he doesn't understand,” Pua told reporters in the Parliament lobby today.

He also clarified that his tweet was not to disrespect the Malay rulers, it was misread by the IGP.

“It is not directed at the Raja-raja Melayu. Anyone who understands English will know that,” the DAP lawmaker said.

He said he was prepared to be called in for an investigation into his tweet, which read "Bastards. Real bastards. Royal my foot" in response to the arrest of Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah yesterday.

“I am ready to meet him... I do not have any other choice ,do I?” Pua remarked sarcastically, with a smirk on his face.

Meanwhile, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang called on Khalid to not be so trigger happy in prosecuting those from the opposition bloc and activists.

“Stop being Twitter happy, IGP. It’s no compliment to him at all. He is so twisted and distorted to have this war against the opposition MPs and activists,” Lim said at a press conference, also in the Parliament lobby.

“The tweet by IGP is twisting the meaning of what Pua said. It is malicious, irresponsible and a seditious tweet by the IGP on an MP,” he added.

Khalid announced on Twitter yesterday that Pua would be called to explain an angry tweet he made lambasting the police over the arrest of Nurul Izzah.

"Police will call Pua to explain what he meant by 'Royal my foot'. Is this aimed at the Malay Rulers?" Khalid tweeted.
