Police today said it will probe threats against BFM presenter Aisyah Tajudin over her parody video criticising the Kelantan government's priorities on hudud, but said the journalist too will not be spared.

"On the BFM case, police will investigate both sides, the BFM presenter and also those who threatened her.

"The script writer for the presenter will also be called in," inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar said in a Twitter posting today.

Yesterday, Aisyah received threats of rape and murder on the social media after a parody video on the business station's website went viral on the Internet.

BFM has since withdrawn the video, stating the video was not intended to insult hudud but only to raise legitimate questions about its implementation.

The radio station also clarified that Aisyah was not responsible for the video's script and was merely its presenter.

'Insulting hudud'

The 1.55-min video was part of BFM's online programme dubbed " kupasan " (commentary) that satirises current affairs.

Certain Muslim conservatives had taken offence to the video, which they claimed was insulting of hudud.

The video had criticised the Kelantan government for pushing through with the Islamic penal code instead of focussing on reconstruction after the state was devastated by unprecedented massive flooding last year that displaced over 150,000 people.

Several media NGOs including Centre for Independent Journalism and Institute of Journalism have condemned the threats against Aisyah.

Following the threats, Aisyah's father Mohamad Tajuddin Mohamad Rasdi yesterday made an impassioned plea for soul searching over why Malaysian society was quick to threaten violence against those with whom they disagreed.

Mohamad Tajuddin said his daughter was "wrecked" by the incident but thanked well wishers including activists Marina Mahathir and Ambiga Sreenevasan for lifting her spirits.

The professor also said although he has a right to lodge a police report against those who have threatened his daughter, he was prepared to forgive them.
