The police have concluded their investigations into a controversial speech by former deputy minister Mashitah Ibrahim during last year's Umno General Assembly.

 

"We have (completed our probe). The papers have been (handed to) the Attorney-General's Chambers," IGP Khalid Abu Bakar told reporters at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

 

Last November, Mashitah claimed there were Chinese people burning the Quran in Kedah, as an example of how Islam and Muslims in Malaysia were being challenged.

 

Her claims were later found to be untrue.

 

Police launched investigations soon after, but the case had dropped off the radar until today.

 

Meanwhile Khalid ( right ) became quite irate when asked why Mashitah, and Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob were not detained for their inflammatory remarks.

 

Ismail Sabri had incensed the Chinese community by calling on Malays to boycott Chinese businesses. 

 

"I am getting tired of commenting on allegations that we are biased…our actions are the same. 

 

"There are those who we need to arrest, there are those that we do not need to. We did not arrest Tony Pua," he said angrily.

 

Pua who is the DAP National Publicity Secretary, has been called in for questioning in regards to an angry tweet he made, lambasting the police for arresting PKR MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.

 

Nurul Izzah, is among scores of opposition leaders and activists have been arrested since a rally on March 7, in what many deem to be a police crackdown on dissent.
