The Conference of Rulers never discussed the implementation of the hudud in Kelantan, despite a recent news report saying otherwise.

"The Conference of Rulers did not discuss the matter (hudud) in any of its meetings."

"Our office also did not issue the statement dated March 25 on the matter," the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal Syed Danial Syed Ahmad was quoted as saying by Bernama .

The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal’s Office also lodged a police report at the Travers Police Station in Kuala Lumpur over the fake press statement.

The government earlier today said the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission will probe the circulation of a fake press statement purported to be from the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal's Office on the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

The fake statement claiming that the Rulers are angry with news portal The Malaysian Insider ’s report was widely circulated online, including by a PAS elected representative.

"We will investigate. It is untrue. Some people are trying to drag in the Conference of Rulers.

"I believe one should be circumspect and and not just believe everything that is circulating, especially on social media," Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

The Malaysian Insider yesterday reported that the Conference of Rulers rejected the Kelantan government’s proposal to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.

PAS intends to table a private member’s bill in Parliament to amend the Act, so the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code II (Amendment 2014) 1993 can be implemented.

The Kelantan government said the news report was "not true" and denied that the matter had been brought to the Rulers Council.
