The Kelantan government has denied claims that the Conference of Rulers had shot down PAS' proposal to amend syariah court rules to allow the implementation of hudud law.

Kelantan Hudud Permanent Secretariat head Takiyuddin Hassan said that the report by The Malaysian Insider , which claimed that the rulers have rejected the Kelantan government's proposal to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, was "not true".

"It is not true. The matter of bringing to the rulers council does not arise. This is a state matter. And the Sultan of Kelantan is already in agreement," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

The Malaysian Insider report claimed that the rulers rejected the proposal on March 11, forcing PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to notify the Dewan Rakyat that he seeks to table a Private Member's Bill to amend the Act on March 18.

"I had asked the Kelantan menteri besar and he said there was no such bill sent (to Rulers Council) or whether such a paper was sent and then retracted. There was no such thing," he said.

He said the 1993 enactment had already obtained royal ascent from the sultan of Kelantan and as such, the issue of pursuing the matter with the Rulers Council did not arise.
