PKR has instructed its party leaders to mobilise its members to attend the Kita Lawan rally in Kuala Lumpur this Saturday.

 

In a press release yesterday, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli said PKR is fully committed to the rally, which is being organised by various NGOs.

 

"PKR hopes that all Malaysians who love Malaysia would turn up to speak out for our rights and oppose against the federal government's wicked ways.

 

"We also hope the authorities do not try to infringe our rights to assemble peacefully," he said.

 

Rafizi said that Kita Lawan's struggle was in line with PKR's policies to protect the public against the goods and services tax (GST), 1MDB scandal, abuse of the Sedition Act 1948 and police attempts to stifle freedom of assembly.

 

Since the incarceration of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on Feb 10, activists have been gathering at the Sogo shopping mall every Saturday afternoon to demand for his release.

 

Eventually, the activists formed the Kita Lawan umbrella group and have incorporated several current affair issues as part of their protest agenda.

 

Kita Lawan's latest campaign involves urging inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar's sacking and for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to step down.

 

The rally on Saturday will coincide with the wedding reception for Najib's daughter, which will take place across town at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

The police have been clamping down on the protests, having arrested over six activists and opposition leaders after the massive rally that saw 10,000 march from Sogo to KLCC on March 7.

Yesterday, six more were arrested during a sit in at Dataran Merdeka.
