YOURSAY ‘It is not the role of the police to decide what is seditious...’

Police chief clears Mahathir of sedition

Slumdog: According to inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar’s definition of sedition, you have to be the first person to raise a contentious issue, only then you will be charged with sedition.

But when the former prime minister said Umno and BN would lose in the next general election unless PM Najib Razak stepped down, no action is taken.

As far as I know, Mahathir is the first to utter these words but this is not seditious?

So now everyone can start accusing Najib of criminal activity relating to Altantuya Shaariibuu and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and not be arrested for sedition because many people have already talked about these issues.

Monty: IGP, if you are walking the talk, then you should also be arresting Dr M. This clearly shows that you do discriminate.

Or to put it another way, you bully only some people. But I guess the IGP is afraid of the former PM.

Sa Tombs: Stop making excuses and do your job by getting to the root cause as to why the public mistrusts PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police).

You cast the evil spell on yourselves. You mean that two guys from your own PRDM have been convicted of murder without any proof of mens rea by either one of them and you keep quiet?

Do you know the meaning of mens rea? If not, ask Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin - he will give you graphic details of menses rea.

Victor Johan: On Feb 2, Khalid warned Malaysians against raising the issue of motive in the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.

"The highest court has made a decision, so there is nothing more to say. And I am warning those who wish to comment further because it may be contempt (of court)," he said.

So Khalid, have you also warned Mahathir just the same? Stop your tweeting and give us the answer, and stop being so lame.

Turvy: My sympathies are with this poor sod. He cannot handle the pressure on him to arrest every man and his kitten.

Wong Lu Shin: The IGP is being deliberately ignorant and acting beyond his powers. It is not the role of the police to decide what is seditious, that's for the state prosecutor.

What's new: I am embarrassingly amused at myself. For the first time in my life, I am on the side of Mahathir - a man I rarely compliment.

This time he took me completely by surprise by his decent desire to correct an injustice against a convicted murderer who was allegedly ordered to kill.

His move was obvious, he wanted to weed out the mastermind of Altantuya's murder. Anyone else who dares try will very quickly put behind bars and charged for sedition.

Mushiro: There are three different standards.

For Pakatan Rakyat leaders and NGOs, they were first arrested, put in police lock-up, handcuffed, dressed in lock-up purple garbs and unslippered, then investigated for sedition for three days and released.

For ministers Mashitah Ibrahim and Ismail Sabri Yaakob, they were not arrested and were given an express investigation over the phone and cleared.

For Mahathir, there was no arrest, no investigation and the IGP himself cleared him. This is PDRM's version of investigating "without fear or favour".

Trublumalaysian: They say it's best to keep quiet if you're not aware of big boy's games rather than to open one's mouth and confirm one's place in history as a bumbling buffoon.

Angel: Mahathir, like many other Malaysians, is convinced that you have not done the investigation diligently enough to find out the truth.

IGP, you should have taken a statement from then DPM Najib Razak’s aide de camp Musa Safri.

Why did he send the DPM’s bodyguards to take Altantuya away. Who ordered him to do so? What was his order given to the two police officers as regards to Altantuya?

You think Mahathir is stupid like you?

Mob1900: Khalid is the most oppressive and destructive top cop ever to grace the position.

The Twitter Cop seems to hold the record for now and there is no one to stop him, thanks to rejection of the mooted Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) years ago.

Vgeorgemy: Khalid wants to usurp his constitutional role as investigation body to Attorney-General's Chambers and judiciary. Any idea when did we amended the constitution?

Winding Up: Alright, thanks IGP for clearing this up.

So from now on everyone can talk about whatever they want and as long as "many people have discussed about it (the same issues)", then it’s not seditious.
