Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will meet with Umno Youth division leaders at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon in his latest bid to shore up support.

Though the media release did not specify the agenda, it can be deduced that former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's scathing criticism of Najib would be the main focus.

Umno Youth division leaders would be represented by their chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who twice urged the prime minister to answer the questions raised by the former premier.

This led to speculation that Khairy could have switched camps since he was seen as a staunch supporter of Najib and a nemesis of Mahathir, who engineered his father-in-law and Najib's predecessor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's ouster.

Previously, Khairy had stressed on the need to tackle the questions raised and not to behave like an ostrich which sticks its head into the sand.

A week later, Khairy again called on Najib to respond to the allegations made by Mahathir instead of keeping mum.

Last Thursday, exactly a week after Mahathir penned his acerbic blog posting, Najib responded to some of the issues raised via a pre-recorded interview aired by the Umno-linked TV3.

However, his answers, according to detractors, were not convincing nor did it stop Mahathir from continuing his tirade.

Prior to this, he met with Wanita Umno, where its chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the wing expressed its undivided support for Najib.
