The Thai police have said they will accept requests from foreign authorities to interrogate former PetroSaudi International (PSI) executive Xavier Andre Justo, who is currently being held in Thailand for alleged blackmailing.

"We welcome requests from other countries if they want to talk to the suspect," acting commander of Thailand's crime suppression division Akaradej Pimonsri said, as reported by news portal AsiaOne today.

Britain had already dispatched its officers to Bangkok to question Justo yesterday, he revealed, as the suspect was also accused of committing a crime in their country.

Yesterday, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar ( photo ) said they had already submitted a request to the Thai police to question Justo, as they need his statement before they can decide what to do next.

"We are working closely with Thai authorities on the matter. We have to wait for them to conclude their investigations on him," he said.

He did not elaborate on why Malaysian police wanted to question Justo.

Khalid had also said that they will be discussing the matter with a Thai assistant police chief who will be visiting Malaysia on Thursday.

Justo was arrested last Monday by Thai authorities and charged with allegedly attempting to blackmail his former employer of 2.5 million Swiss francs (RM10 million).

However, some ministers in Malaysia have used Justo's arrest to claim that leaked e-mails regarding 1MDB's financial irregularities might have been "tampered" , in an attempt to clear the name of 1MDB.
