Who’s damaging the economy - Dr M or 1MDB?

YOURSAY ‘The damage is caused by erratic behaviour of key figures in 1MDB.’

Dr M's claims damaging economy, says 1MDB

Commentable: This latest 1MDB statement has revealed nothing new, only that it is still as recalcitrant and arrogant as before.

The damage is done upon itself, not by anyone else and certainly not by former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Six months of ‘hide and seek’ by 1MDB has ignited and fed the flames of speculation.

Much of the allegations thrown at 1MDB were later proven to have substance and they were not rebutted by those involved, including the PM himself. On the contrary, there were occasional admissions and these can no longer stand as false allegations/claims.

Since 1MDB is a 100 percent government-owned company, it holds a fiduciary duty to the public as its funds are coming from the taxpayers. It cannot turn around and expect the public to shield and protect it from scrutiny.

They keep forgetting that the local and international communities do not owe 1MDB anything, especially when it comes to protecting its reputation. Only 1MDB can do that, no one else.

Do us a favour, resign now and stop damaging the Malaysian economy.

Meh: This is indeed the most ridiculous statement by 1MDB to date. Mahathir keeps asking the same questions because 1MDB keeps refusing to answer them.

It is 1MDB’s doubletalk and cunning replies that have got investors worried. Nothing more, nothing less. Now, 1MDB is running around like a headless chicken, selling away all its crown jewels.

1MDB parted with solid hard cash and ended up with ‘units’. The facts speak for themselves. If the units are good, they can be easily cashed them out to repay the banks.

Abasir: 1MDB continues to repeat the same answers and claims that its funds were 'not lost' nor 'unaccounted for' without providing any evidence. Just like its adviser, who repeats not knowing the woman when asked who ordered the killing.

Swipenter: Isn't it a fact that 1MDB cannot repay its huge interests and massive loans without resorting to outside help or selling its prized assets?

1MDB has already admitted it does not generate enough cash flow to service its loan and interest due and payable. And isn't it a fact that 1MDB can’t have its audited accounts brought up-to-date?

It is also a fact that 1MDB cannot show where all the RM42 billion is and what is its current net worth. Now who is damaging the economy? 1MDB or Mahathir?

CQ Muar: 1MDB, the fact that Mahathir and the majority of Malaysians repeatedly question the huge debt is because of your boss Najib's refusal to divulge the truth and kept an elegant silence from the start.

Imagine what would have happened had the 1MDB fiasco remain undiscovered and unexposed?

Enough of your stupid defences - Najib will continue to be bombarded with questions for as long the RM42 billion debt remains a mystery.

Justine Gow: Indeed, the damage is caused by the erratic behaviour of key figures in 1MDB and their inability to answer questions clearly and consistently.

If the allegations are really false, they can be easily dealt with - answer them clearly, show where the money is and then sue Dr M and the opposition members.

By the way, what happens to the NGO which offer a million ringgit reward for information that can be used against Dr M? It has been so quiet that I cannot remember the name of the NGO or the head of the NGO.

Mushiro: Who in 1MDB made this statement but is shy to show himself? It is true that there is huge damage to the Malaysian economy but the damage is clearly caused by 1MDB and not Mahathir.

Thana55: 1MDB, please look at the mirror. You are the ones shooting yourselves in the foot by not answering the pertinent questions raised by Tony Pua, Rafizi Ramli, Mahathir, Nazir Razak, etc.

And why did you have to 'escape' the PAC hearing and now ask for a two-month delay if you had nothing to hide?

Lastly, Najib's failure to appear at the 'Nothing to Hide' dialogue drove the final nail in the 1MDB coffin. So don’t blame Mahathir.

If not for him, the rakyat would have been blinded by the shenanigans that went on in 1MDB. Now we have the sequel to this scandal - Mara. Malaysians do not deserve this.

Just_A_Rakyat: 1MDB, which is a government-owned company, should be open to public scrutiny. Mahathir or whoever making allegations must be negated by 1MDB with solid facts.

Show them the numbers and not units. Why blame others for your own failure?

What has happened to 1MDB that it needs a rationalisation plan? Are you saying the past management has grossly mismanaged the company? And if so, in what way?

Sleepy: A typical response from 1MDB - when the going gets tough/rough, blame others for the mistakes.

1MDB, don’t pin the blame on others
