Uearthing truth behind 1MDB not ‘act of sabotage’

YOURSAY ‘According to Umno logic, it's not treason if one steals money.’

'Justo meeting': Own up, opposition figure told

Negarawan: "(If the allegations are true) it is an act to sabotage the country, this is treason against the country," said Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

You are absolutely right; the individual who had RM2.6 billion allegedly transferred from 1MDB into his personal bank accounts has committed treason of the highest order and abused the trust given to him by the rakyat.

In a well-governed country like Singapore, investigations on such a crime would have been concluded months ago, and the irresponsible individual, regardless of position, would have been charged and sentenced.

The rakyat is getting impatient with the games being played by Umno to protect the irresponsible individual, in order to maintain their ministerial positions in the cabinet and their gravy train.

Kuasa Rakyat: Excuse me? Telling the truth is an "act of sabotage"? What stupidity!

Sali Tambap: This is like trying to kill the messenger and not the message. The suspect is the prime minister and the allegation has not been categorically denied, that is, whether the bank accounts belong to him and the money deposited into those accounts.

Was that a wrongdoing, if proven to be true? If it was, then regardless who brought it out into the open, the police should be thankful that somebody is doing the job for them, and that the culprits involved are brought to book.

Hplooi: This is political thuggery at its highest level. The allegation of the US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) has not even been addressed.

The PM has not even issued any official denial. Just read what the Thai police said. Is the Malaysian police going on a fishing expedition?

Don't we even care that this should not be a war of perception but about getting the truth before it consumes the whole country?

Alex Ferguson: Why should the opposition leaders have to clear the air if the government is not clearing the air over all the corruption scandals, etc?

If conspiracy against the PM is a serious offence, what about the alleged misdeeds committed by the PM? Where are the answers to all the questions that the public is seeking?

Real Truth: Why is it that one minister after another is getting involved in this case? Let former PetroSaudi International director Xavier Andre Justo name those who had met him in court, until then it is fabricated speculation and does not carry any weight.

Even if there were meetings with Justo, it is a fact-finding mission. If the information passed is legitimate, there is nothing anyone can do.

Our concern is whether the PM received the alleged RM2.6 billion in his personal accounts and where did the RM2 million, which allegedly went into PM’s wife Rosmah Mansor’s bank account, come from.

Rick Teo: Ahmad Shabery is a stupid politician. What is wrong if opposition did meet up with Justo to get the truth of what transpired in the communications between PetroSaudi International and 1MDB? Does that come under treason?

The purpose is to determine the truth as to whether 1MDB money was channelled to Najib's account.

Wira: According to Umno logic, it's not treason if one steals money, big money, from the nation's coffer.

It's treason if you meet someone outside the country who has information to expose those thieves. What kind of logic is this?

Vijay47: Shabery Cheek, like your cabinet colleague Nazri Abdul Aziz, it is always entertaining when Umno members come out with their profound in-depth definitions of sabotage and treason, especially since we don't recall Najib being elevated to the position of Agong or sultan.

Should these leaders want to impress the world with their grasp of political issues, or at least local realities, slightly more maturity and intelligence may be what the doctor ordered, though in Shabery Cheek's case, there is yet no known cure.

If at all it is illegal for anyone to meet anyone, a view Ahmad Shabery seems to share with our equally learned IGP (police chief), why is this renowned politician asking for only the opposition member involved to come clean?

Wouldn't it be more logical for him to demand his own party members who met Justo to similarly own up? But I forget - logic, maturity, and intelligence are in short supply in Umno.

Smer: Shabery, stop bullsh**ting. Thai police and Justo never said anything about conspiracy. All it was said was selling information, "real" information in fact, about real corruption and real problems.

Stop trying to spin this into some national security issue. Face it, you have no legal basis to demand the 'surrender' of the alleged opposition leader.

Multi Racial: Please don't deviate from the actual crime. Forget about the rest. It is easy to prove whether what The Wall Street Journal has claimed is true or not.

After all they were specific with the bank name, bank account numbers, the owner of the accounts and the amount of money credited into those accounts.

If WSJ's claim is false, not just Najib but also our Attorney-General’s Chambers should sue WSJ and others for defamation. If WSJ's claim is true, then Najib and those responsible should not only resign but also to be charged.
