'PM skipped IACC because delegates think he is corrupt?'

Did Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak skip the current International Anti-Corruption Conference because the delegates view him as corrupt?

That's one of two questions DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang is asking Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low, who advised Najib not to attend due to 'personal issues' and 'a possible hostile reception'.

"What are these 'personal issues'? Is it that Najib is now regarded by the 1,000 participants at the 16th IACC as one of the corrupt leaders of the world?

"And what did Low mean about 'a possible hostile reception'? Did he mean that Najib would have run the risk of being assaulted or manhandled by agitated 16th IACC participants?" Lim ( photo ) asked in a statement today.

Najib was supposed to officiate the IACC but pulled out at the eleventh hour.

The prime minister has since had brickbats hurled at him including from Transparency International chief Jose Ugaz who demanded Najib explain the RM2.6 billion 'donation' he received.

Teeth and substance call

Lim took the opportunity to further mock the premier who has gained an international reputation for avoiding difficult questions.

"Will Najib be avoiding all international conferences unless they are held in the Third World or where he can be assured that no 'hard questions' will be asked?" he asked pointedly.

He then called on the IACC to help Malaysia solve the scandals surrounding Najib through an international commission of inquiry.

"As the theme of 16th IACC is 'Ending Impunity: People. Integrity. Action', is the IACC prepared to offer the services of an international commission of inquiry to get to the bottom of both these scandals to give teeth and substance to the IACC theme?" he asked.
