For the past few months, the nation has been embroiled in a political crisis while the ringgit continues to fall.
The haze has returned, the Malaysian national football team gets a 10-0 trashing, while Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his RM2.6 billion donation have become the focal point of delegates attending the International Anti-Corruption Conference.
So it does not come as a surprise that the prime minister's brother, Nazir Abdul Razak, has expressed disappointment over the state of affairs.
"I don't remember a time when just absolutely everything seems to be going badly for Malaysia.
"I pray that this is the darkest before dawn," the CIMB chairperson said in an Instagram post today.
Nazir has often used the social media platform to express his views, which include subtle jabs at the government.
However, this latest post appears to be the banker's bleakest outlook for Malaysia yet.
The prime minister has appointed Nazir to a Special Economic Committee, which is tasked with stabilising and strengthening the economy.
