PAS has condemned the actions of those who burned effigies of opposition leaders in Kelantan last Sunday.

"PAS condemns the actions of the people who burned effigies of opposition leaders that was alleged to have happened in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

"This practice is not only barbaric, but also is completely unlike the culture of Malaysian society," said PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan ( photo ).

He added that the party has consistently disagreed with any form of actions that could cause tension and hatred in the society.

Hence, the Kota Bharu MP said, PAS calls for the ruling party to control their members and supporters, to ensure that the future is more optimistic and realistic.

Last Sunday, effigies of DAP's Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng were burned to ashes.

Videos of the incident were soon uploaded to the Internet.

The torching of the effigies was believed to have been done for the red shirt rally which will be held tomorrow.

Following this, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar ( photo ) has said that the police will be investigating the incident.
