Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy president Salahuddin Ayub believes that the Conference of Rulers' stand on 1MDB is a clear signal for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to quit with immediate effect.

He said this is because Najib failed to convince all quarters, including the rulers regarding 1MDB and his personal issues.

".... (the rulers’ statement) can be interpreted as advising Najib to quit as prime minister because he is unable to resolve the 1MDB issue and is affecting the nation's economy.

"Amanah is convinced that the Conference of Rulers' reprimand is to ensure that Putrajaya focuses on developing the nation and at the same time, repairs the economy following the weakening of the Ringgit," he said in a statement.

The Conference of Rulers had called for the probe into 1MDB to be completed as soon as possible and for action to be taken against those who breached the law.

The sultans also warned that the absence of proper explanations and answers would lead to a confidence crisis.

Meanwhile, 1MDB president and executive director Arul Kanda has declined to comment on the Conference of Rulers’ statement.

According to the BN Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) website, he said 1MDB would not issue any official statement regarding this matter.

"The call (by the rulers) was made to the government, not 1MDB. We have no comment because we are being investigated...," he was quoted as saying.

Najib has been accused of derailing the 1MDB probe when Abdul Gani Patail was suddenly replaced as attorney-general due to health reasons.

Following this, the PAC probe also came to a halt when Najib appointed its chief and several BN MPs into the cabinet.

The prime minister also axed his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin and another minister, Mohd Shafie Apdal, for being critical of 1MDB.

However, Najib has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
