Former Umno Batu Kawan vice-chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan vows that he would continue fighting till the end to seek the truth.

Speaking to reporters after his actress wife Umie Aida posted the RM10,000 bail, he thanked Justice Mohd Azman Hussin for ruling that the charge is not under the Security Offences (Security Measures) Act 2012.

"In any struggle to uphold the truth, they can do whatever they want but in the end the truth will prevail.

"I would like to reserve further comments for the time being but rest assured, I will never stop my struggle to seek the truth. I will fight till the end," he said upon his release after spending almost two months at the Sungai Buloh prison.

He was released at the Kuala Lumpur High Court criminal registry at about 12:50 pm, along with his lawyer Matthias Chang, who is former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s ( photo ) political secretary.

Khairuddin is also the cousin to former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

The two were charged with allegedly sabotaging the country's financial institutions by lodging reports around the world, namely against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and 1MDB.

The reports were lodged in Switzerland, France, United Kingdom, Singapore and Hong Kong. However, Chang participated in only three of the reports acting as Khairuddin's lawyer.

Khairuddin said he was honoured to see Mahathir, his wife Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, former Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Junid and his wife Nila Inangda present in court.

Chang, meanwhile, thanked the judge for his “courageous” decision and also Mahathir for his show of support in the court.

Prosecution appealing

Meanwhile, Khairuddin's lead counsel Hanif Khatri Abdullah said the prosecution has indicated that they would appeal against today's decision to the Court of Appeal.

"I think we can look at the written judgment of the High Court which ruled that section 124L of the Penal Court should not be under Sosma.

"However, what's important is that my client (Khairuddin) is not incarcerated as we managed to secure bail and they (Khairuddin and Chang) are free," he said.

Chang is represented by senior lawyer Zainur Zakaria. The team is ably assisted by Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali and Fahmi Moin.

The case was initially transferred by Justice Azman to the Federal Court earlier this month for the apex court to decide as it involves a constitutional question.

However, the bench led by Chief Justice Arifin Zakaria remitted the case back to Justice Azman for the High Court to decide, with an order that should there be an appeal it must be heard expeditiously.
