DAP Youth has repeated its outgoing chief's call last week for Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali to officially recognise Pakatan Harapan in the state as an important step for PKR to take.

Youth political education director Chiong Yoke Kong said the statement that outgoing Youth chief Teo Kok Seong issued last week was not his personal view as Azmin had claimed, but that of the national Youth wing.

"DAP Youth welcomes Azmin's efforts to strengthen cooperation within Harapan.

"However at the same time, we also regret the PKR central committee's decision not to recognise Harapan in the Selangor government.

"PKR should study the current political climate more closely and deeply, to see that PAS has gone back on its promise to Pakatan Rakyat and has lost credibility and the trust of the people," said Chiong.

Yesterday Azmin reaffirmed his commitment to work with PAS , as well as with the new Harapan coalition comprising partners Parti Amanah Negara and DAP.

Amanah was formed after PAS progressives were wiped out in this year's muktamar in what they claim was a concerted effort by the ulama faction to dominate the Islamic party's leadership.

Chiong said as Selangor is the opposition's frontline in its battle against Umno-BN, they hope Azmin would not only recognise Harapan in Selangor but nationwide.

"We agree with the PKR deputy president that politics is a marathon, but DAP Youth also remembers our late party president Karpal Singh, who once said, 'There are no lasting friends and enemies in politics, only lasting principles'," he said.
