Perkasa has trained its guns on Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin after a senior official from his ministry was apprehended for allegedly masterminding the embezzlement of RM100 million in government allocations.

"Didn't Khairy realise this? RM100 million is not a small amount. This has been happening for a long time.

"Khairy must explain this. This not something to play around with," said the right wing movement's Youth (Wira Perkasa) leader Fahmi Ideris in a media statement.

He also zeroed in on the minister's statement regarding technical weaknesses in relation to the internal process.

Fahmi pointed out that all approvals for money flowing in and out of the ministry must be detailed.

"This is what happens when things are taken easy," he added.

Calling on Khairy to explain the above issues in detail, the Wira Perkasa leader also urged for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption (MACC) to make its findings public once investigation is completed.

"Since the establishment of the Youth and Sports ministry, this is the biggest corruption case to hit the ministry. So I urge the minister to be responsible in this matter," he added.

As it is, Fahmi said the country is already being rocked by numerous financial issues and the latest scandal further tainted Malaysia's image.

"If this minister (Khairy) cannot solve this case, then how are we to place our trust in other ministers?" he asked.

Meanwhile, Umno man Syed Rosli Jamalullail also took a swipe at Khairy, claiming that the minister's remarks on the case do not inspire confidence.

"Khairy should be more focussed on what is happening in his ministry instead of poking his nose in the affairs of other ministries. This is what happens when you lose focus and are careless.

"Imagine if Khairy becomes prime minister, perhaps RM100 billion will go missing and he may not realise it," added the Pusat Bandar Taman Cempaka Umno assistant secretary.

Earlier, Khairy said he had discussed with chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa to set up an independent panel to correct the internal weaknesses in the ministry.

Previously, MACC revealed that a division secretary with a government agency, whom it described as the mastermind, was among nine arrested on March 17.

They are believed to be part of a syndicate involving misappropriation of state funds.

The 56-year-old senior officer was alleged to have received kickbacks amounting to RM20 million and led a lavish lifestyle.

The syndicate, which had been operating since 2010, allegedly hosted non-existing programmes with payments made to a contractor through the division secretary.

MACC froze 69 accounts worth RM8.33 million, and seized houses, cars, clothes, jewellery.

Also confiscated were expensive watches worth up to RM400,000, Hermes handbags worth RM600,000 and RM300,00 worth of beddings.

The mastermind also frequently travelled with his family via first class tickets costing RM80,000 per person.
