PAS names medical doctor as its choice for Kuala Kangsar

The head of Perak PAS women's wing, Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad, has been named the party's candidate in the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election next month.

The announcement was made by PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man near the Kuala Kangsar PAS headquarters in Bukit Chandan in Kuala Kangsar tonight.

Najihatussalehah, 50, is also a committee member of the PAS central women's wing for the 2015-2017 session.

The candidate (photo) from Pasir Kubu, Pulau Tiga Kiri, Pasir Salak, holds a degree in medicine and surgery and had served as a medical officer at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

The Kuala Kangsar by-election is being held following the death of its MP Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad in a helicopter tragedy in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5.

The Election Commission had fixed the date for the Kuala Kangsar by-election as June 18 and nomination day as June 5.

At the 13th general election, Wan Mohammad Khair-il obtained a majority of 1,082 votes to beat PAS candidate Khalil Idham Lim Abdullah and independent candidate Kamilia Ibrahim.

The Kuala Kangsar parliamentary constituency has 32,949 registered voters comprising ordinary voters (32,632), early voters (312) and postal voters (five).

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is scheduled to announce the name of the BN candidate for the Kuala Kangsar election tomorrow afternoon while Parti Amanah Negara will announce its candidate on June 2.
