Penang DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow said that a consensus on snap polls should be reached first in Pakatan Harapan before its partners discuss about other "side" issues.

He said consensus on snap polls in Penang was the main issue and not how the parties were planning to contest the early election.

Chow said this when asked to comment about PKR deputy president Azmin Ali's view that Pakatan was seeking a joint victory in the polls.

Azmin, who is also Selangor menteri besar, said PKR would maintain its relations with PAS to avoid three-cornered fights.

"The main decision – consensus on snap polls – has not been made yet," Chow told reporters in George Town today.

"Until we come to a consensus, we don't have to deal with other side issues," added the Penang state executive councillor.

"I am more interested about us achieving a consensus first as other matters can follow suit," he added.

On PKR's plan to ensure straight fights in the early polls, Chow said such matters should be discussed at the negotiating table, and not "outside".

"But first, a decision by consensus on whether to have the snap polls should be achieved first," he said.

DAP's proposal for snap polls has been stalled with PKR's indecision on whether to accept or ditch the idea.

DAP has strongly insisted on snap polls to seek a fresh mandate in Penang after its secretary-general and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was slapped with two graft charges last month.

PKR has decided to delay its decision as the party fears that it may lose seats, especially if there are three-cornered fights with PAS which is at loggerheads with DAP.

Parti Amanah Negara has agreed to the plan for snap polls and has warned PAS not to break up Pakatan Harapan by threatening to contest in multiple cornerned fights.
