Tabung Haji associate firm's ex-CEO charged; MACC boss warns corrupt politicians

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Ex-GLC chief slapped with CBT

Lembaga Tabung Haji associate firm TH Heavy Engineering Bhd's (THHE) former chief executive officer Nor Badli Munawir Mohamad Alias Latfi, 50, was charged with criminal breach of trust totalling RM2.57 million. He pleaded not guilty.

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli said this shows his exposes on THHE since early 2016 are true.

In a related matter, Lembaga Tabung Haji said it had made RM1.06 billion from investments in the oil and gas sector, and will not withdraw from these despite short-term losses.

This is in response to Rafizi's claim that the investments into the sector incurred heavy losses.

MACC boss warns corrupt politicians

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad warned corrupt politicians that it would only be a matter of time before they are brought to face justice.

Separately, MACC deputy chief commissioner Shamsun Baharin Mohd Jamil said half of those arrested for graft in the last three years are aged 40 and below.

Meanwhile, former MACC special operations division director Bahri Mohd Zin lodged a police report against his sister-in-law after she alleged he abused his power by ordering a raid on her house when he was with the commission.

Noraihan Che Ali made the allegations after Bahri opted for early retirement, citing disappointment that the SRC International case linked to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, where RM42 million of SRC’s money was found in the PM’s bank account, was not prosecuted.

Other Kinibites

Following a recently declassified CIA document on the BMF (Bumiputra Malaysia Finance) scandal, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the scandal, which happened during his tenure, is different from the ongoing 1MDB imbroglio as it was not directly linked to the PM.

Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, the former aide of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, claimed Anwar's friend visited him to convey the politician's apology and asked Saiful to seek a royal pardon for Anwar, who is now in jail for sodomising Saiful.

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Hasan Arifin again shot down Semambu assemblyperson Lee Chean Chung's claims about his involvement in the controversial cancellation of part of Tok Sira Malay reserve land status in Kuantan.

PAS said it will only work with Mahathir if he repents and stops co-operating with DAP.

Looking ahead

Umno will hold its monthly supreme council meeting in the afternoon, while lorry driver Nasrul Faiz Zulfahmi will be quizzed by police under the Peaceful Assembly Act over last Sunday's rally held to protest the savage assault against him.

Today is Chinese New Year’s eve and families will be gathering for reunion dinners.
