Kim Jong-nam 'assassinated' at KLIA2; Dr M admits demonising DAP; 'Gang of Four' fiasco

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Kim Jong-nam 'assassinated' at KLIA2

The estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been allegedly murdered at the low-cost terminal of KL International Airport (KLIA).

It is not yet determined exactly how Jong-nam, 46, who was reportedly on route to Macau, was killed.

According to the police, “someone grabbed or held his face from behind” and he subsequently felt “dizzy” and sought help.

Kim was taken to an airport clinic and he died in the ambulance while on the way to Putrajaya Hospital.

Dr M admits demonising DAP

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad conceded that he had in the past contributed to DAP's poor reputation among Malay voters as part of Umno’s political strategy, something which he claims Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is also continuing to do.

Mahathir also said Bersatu's one-month ultimatum for PAS to forge an electoral pact was a firm and final decision as there is nothing else he can think of to persuade them to join the grand coalition against the BN.

"I don't want to crawl and kiss the feet of PAS leaders," he said.

'Gang of Four' fiasco

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has taken the blame for the resignation of one MP and three state assemblypersons in Malacca from the party.

He apologised to the party and the public for his decision to trust the quartet, whom he dubbed the "Gang of Four".

Meanwhile, DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang insisted that there is no "fire" in DAP's backyard, despite  the resignations of its four elected representatives, adding that it is normal for political parties to face hiccups from time to time.

Two more senior DAP leaders are expected to quit the party soon, less than 48 hours after the exit of the four, said former DAP vice-chairperson Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim, describing it as the beginning of the fall of DAP.

More Kinibites

Tension ran high outside the Selangor state secretariat building yesterday afternoon when Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos turned up with another publicity stunt dressed as a grave digger complete with hearse and coffins.

Federal Territories Youth chief Khairil Nizam Khairudin lambasted those unearthing claims that PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin owns a Porsche Cayman car, in light of the allegation that the party received RM90 million from Umno.

Hashim had in 2013 explained the luxury car belonged to his son despite that he was registered as the owner.

Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali expressed “sadness” that his long-held crown as a "katak" (frog) has been taken away from him by former minister Zaid Ibrahim after the latter joined DAP.

Looking ahead

An Orang Ali delegation from Gua Musang, Kelantan will send a memorandum to the Forestry Department headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today to protest the action being taken by the state forestry department against their anti-logging blockades.
