Pyongyang sends delegation; auditor-general's Umno membership

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Pyongyang delegation coming

Pyongyang has sent a high-level delegation to Malaysia seeking the body of Kim Jong-nam, the estranged half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who was killed on Feb 13 at KLIA2, and to inquire on the arrest of a North Korean citizen over the matter.

Meanwhile inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has said the police have no qualms sharing information on the use of the VX nerve agent to kill Jong-nam with the United Nations.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also home minister, clarified that Malaysia will not share the information on the investigation into the murder of Jong-nam until the entire investigation and legal process have been completed.

Auditor-general's Umno membership

PKR has raised red flags over newly-appointed auditor-general Madinah Mohamad's alleged Umno membership, questioning if this would affect her independence and impartiality.

Meanwhile Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos questioned why an alleged bankrupt has been appointed to head a Selangor foundation.

More Kinibites

The latest instalment of KiniGuide yesterday sought to explain unearthing the 25-year-old foreign exchange scandal of Bank Negara that took place in the 1990s, as the government sets up a task force to investigate the matter.

The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) said it viewed the death of M Thanaseelan at the Bukit Sentosa police station lock-up in Hulu Selangor seriously, following two other similar custodial deaths in just over a month.

The family of Pastor Raymond Koh, who was abducted more than two weeks ago, wants the police to investigate the case under Article 364 of the Penal Code - kidnapping or abducting in order to murder - which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 20 years.

Looking ahead

Two foreign suspects will be charged in the magistrate’s court in Sepang today in connection with the murder of North Korean Kim Jong-nam.
