The Film Censorship Board (LPF) said it has not found the film 'Power Rangers' to contain any element related to alternative sexuality, and has therefore allowed the movie to be screened.

In a statement yesterday, the Home Ministry said the finding was made based on the storyline and a scene in the film that features five friends acquiring supernatural powers and joining force to defend Earth with their powers.

"Based on the storyline and scene of the film, LPF finds the film does not contain any element of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender queer (LGBTQ), and the film has been passed without cuts (lulus bersih) and has been rated PG13," the Home Ministry said.

It said the movie was referred to the Censorship Board on March 16 and a decision was made on March 22.

LPF said it completed its decision within the five days limit set under the customer service charter.

"Thus, there is no issue of delays in decision-making, and the screening company's decision to postpone ticket sales has nothing to do with LPF," the Home Ministry said.

News site Malaysia Outlook this week reported that TGV Cinemas had halted its advance ticket sales for the 'Power Rangers', which was said to start today.

'Power Rangers' director Dean Israelite was reported as saying the character Yellow Ranger will question her sexuality in the film.

In a related incident, LPF recently came under fire after the screening of Disney fairytale 'Beauty and the Beast' was postponed from its original date of March 16, for further scrutiny over an alleged brief "gay moment" by one of the characters in the film.

Following widespread backlash and an appeal by Disney Malaysia, it was reported that the film will be screened after all, on March 30, without any cuts.
