TV production firm apologises to Watson Nyambek

The production company which produced the 'Sukan Tak Sentral' television programme has issued an apology to Watson Nyambek for belittling the name of the former national sprinter's father.

Primeworks Studios Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Ahmad Izham Omar offered the apology on behalf of TV3 and TV9.

"I would like to humbly offer our sincerest apology to Watson Nyambek for the degrading remarks made over his father's good name.

"We have the highest respect for Watson, his father and family. Watson is a national sprinter and athlete who had served the nation with outstanding contributions," he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Izham said the company had also issued a reminder to all employees to constantly be alert and sensitive in every programme that was being produced.

He also told Bernama that Primeworks Studios was now holding internal discussion on the form of action that could be taken against the host of the programme.

"We will reach the consensus on the matter tomorrow," said Ahmad Izham.

The chief executive officer, in the statement, said the company would also conduct a review of their work method and operations to avoid such an incident to recur.

"Again, we would like to humbly convey our apology for our mistake and we will ensure that such incidents will never happen again," he said.

It was reported that the former national 100 metres record holder was upset over the incident as the television host had equated the name of Watson's father, who died three years ago of cancer, to an animal.
