There are 18,411 elegible voters based on the electoral roll updated on Aug 15. Of these, 195 are postal voters.Nine polling stations will be set up.
The seat fell vacant following the
death
of PAS assemblyperson Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Jaafar on Oct 31.
Wan Abdul Aziz who died of liver cancer, was one of 24 PAS state assemblypersons in Kelantan who won in the 2004 general election.
He defeated Umno's Hanafi Mamat by a wafer-thin majority of 56. He garnered 7,168 votes while Hanafi bagged 7,112 votes.
This enabled PAS to retain control of the state government with a narrow majority of three seats over Barisan Nasional, which now holds 21 seats in the state legislature.
