Keadilan's women wing should play an influential role in bringing a balance to the existing political discussions within the party, said incumbent chief Fuziah Salleh today.

Describing Keadilan as a "rainbow alliance" consisting of various groups, she urged the women members to take on the role of a "patch" to unite the alliance as there are many female leaders in the party, of whom 11 are in the party supreme council.

"In fact, this party is the only party (in Malaysia) which has a female president," Fuziah said.

"This position needs to be used to unite and spread this rainbow alliance," she added.

Fuziah was delivering her policy address during Keadilan's women wing annual general meeting today in Kemaman, Terengganu.

The women chief explained that the party is special because it is a party where reformists, various non-governmental organisation leaders, Malaysian Muslim Youth Movement (Abim) and Jemaah Islah Malaysia (JIM) members, professional and intellectuals as well as individuals from various races and backgrounds joined forces to "fight tyranny".

'Pluralistic party'

"Keadilan is a rainbow alliance that combines the potential and strength from the diversity of the Malaysian communities," she said.

Stressing on the statement by Keadilan's president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail during the party's AGM last year that Keadilan is a 'pluralistic party', Fuziah said it was not easy to build a strong pluralistic party.

She told party members to think of the 'culture' that they would like to establish in the party.

"From our internal political aspect, we mut be ready to strengthen the relations with everyone. Accommodative character and compromise must be culturally internalised. The concept of justice must be translated in all the actions and decisions taken by the party," she said.

Being in the same boat, Keadilan members have to be accommodative or else the situation in the 'boat' will not be comfortable, Fuziah added.
