Two Perak excos to be charged on Monday
ACA says there is enough evidence to charge five people, including two Perak exco members, for alleged graft involving a housing project in Seri Iskandar worth RM180m.
ACA says there is enough evidence to charge five people, including two Perak exco members, for alleged graft involving a housing project in Seri Iskandar worth RM180m.
The five will be charged on Monday, ACA director-general Ahmad Said Hamdan told the Star today.
He said the agency was in the midst of informing the two excos and three others to turn up at its office in Ipoh on Monday morning before taking them to court to face the charges.
The two Perak exco members, Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi, 52, and Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu, 57, were arrested earlier this week for graft involving a RM180 million housing project in Seri Iskandar, 30 minutes south of Ipoh.
All detainees were released on Thursday after their remand order was shortened from three days to two on Friday, except for Jamaluddin who was released on Friday.
Unexpected move
In an unexpected move, Perak ACA director Samsiah Abu Bakar released details of the alleged crime committed by the five, which includes RM100,000 being found in a bad belonging to one of the suspects.
She added that some of the suspects were arrested at a hotel at 6pm on Tuesday, adding that more than RM20,000 had exchanged hands weeks before the arrest.
The corruption watchdog almost never reveal details of its investigations and circumstances of arrest before bringing the matter to court.
Both exco members has claimed innocence while Perak Menteri Besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin has warned that legal action may be taken against the ACA for defamation.
Reacting to the latest development, Perak senior exco member Ngeh Khoo Ham said that the Pakatan Rakyat state administration would not tolerate nor defend any form of corruption.
“However, in this case we need to let the law take its course. Nothing has been proven yet,” he said when met at the sidelines of the 15th DAP Congress in Kuala Lumpur today.
