A police sergeant who is already in trouble for allegedly assaulting police detainee B Prabakar was today charged for another offence of trying to cover up the assault.

Mohd Diah Sulaiman, 45, from Brickfields district police station was charged with forcing his subordinate to give false statement in the police investigations into the violent interrogation of Prabakar last December.

Mohd Diah is accused of asking his subordinate Corporal Mohd Azwan Mohd to give the false statement in ASP Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali's course of investigation of the case.

The false statement involved Mohd Azwan telling Zulfikar that no interrogation was done on Prabakar and his cousin C Solomon, and withholding the fact that both the alleged suspects were injured in the process of interrogation.

man-tortured-at-brickfields-police-station-prabakar It was reported on Dec 31, that Prabakar, a 27-year-old car park attendant, had alleged that police poured hot water on him and scalded his body in the course of questioning.

Mohd Diah, was alleged to have committed the offence at the Brickfields police station D7 office, about 3pm on Dec 31, last year. He stands to face a maximum three years jail and fine if convicted.

The accused claimed trial to the charge. He was represented by counsel Nordin Hassan. Deputy Public Prosecutor Lee Keng Fatt applied bail at RM3,000.

Nordin applied that the bail be lowered as his client was married and had children to support.

Bail set at RM1,800

Magistrate Nor Aziah Kasran agreed to reduce bail at RM1,800 with one surety and fixed April 15 for mention. Bail was posted by Mohd Diah's wife.

On Jan 15, Mohd Diah and six other policemen have been charged with criminal intimidation and voluntary causing hurt to Prabakar and Solomon. All seven policemen had claimed trial.

They were accused of committing the offence against Prabakar and Solomon between 10.15pm on Dec 23 and 3.30am on Dec 24

For this charge, the seven could face a maximum seven years' jail term and a fine.

That case also came up today at the Sessions Court where judge Zainal Abidin Kamaruddin fixed May 11 for mention.

This was after defence counsel Muhammad Naguib Abdul Malik telling the court that he had yet to obtain more documents from the prosecution.
