'The power is in your hands, Tuanku'

your say ‘You will prevent further anger at the judiciary and executive branch. All citizens will hail you as the saviour of our country and its ideals when you agree to fresh polls in Perak'.

On More calls for fresh elections in Perak

Simon: Your Royal Highness Sultan Azlan Shah, please take this opportunity to call for fresh polls. Your people will respect you and thank you for upholding their wishes.

You would prevent further anger at the judiciary and the executive branch. All citizens of Malaysia will hail you as the saviour of our country and its ideals.

Once and for all, fresh polls will end all arguments as to which party has the rakyat' s support.

And then, the party that wins will have to work very, very hard to ensure they deliver their promises.

Your Royal Highness Sultan Azlan Shah can make it all possible. The power is in your hands, Tuanku.

K Ganesh: Had BN still possessed a two-third majority in the federal Parliament, they would undoubtedly have amended the federal constitution to resolve the Perak constitutional crisis to their advantage.

Failing this, it has employed the dubious services of a compromised judiciary to outgun the opposition and the police to intimidate PKR assembly persons.

With no help forthcoming from the rulers, it is clear that Pakatan will face a tough time handling this crisis.

With practically all instruments of state corrupted by BN, the people's electoral power offers the only hope for saving the country. Yet, the ballot box is hardly foolproof.

With every election, there are credible reports of BN cheating under the partial eye of the Election Commission.

Dictators routinely conduct bogus elections to whitewash their regime. The people's vote could not remove from office a despot as sickening as Mugabe.

Malaysia is at the cusp of a peaceful revolution that could sweep BN away in the next general election.

Yet, it is also possible for a desperate regime to institute massive electoral fraud to cling on to power, backed by an increasingly violent police force and a lapdog judiciary.

Already, BN's refusal to seek a fresh mandate from the people of Perak can be seen as one form of electoral fraud.

We need to be vigilant and must continue using the power of the Internet to raise awareness. We need whatever help we can get to save the country from dictatorship.

But we need not expect much help from the rulers who in 1988, stood by while Dr Mahathir Mohamad damaged what was until then one of the most admired and independent judiciaries of developing nations.

K Siva Kumar: Enough is enough. We Perakians want to move forward and get on with our lives, be it under a BN or Pakatan-elected government.

We have had enough of this lawlessness in Perak over the last one month. There seems to be no solution.

His Highness the Sultan of Perak and the Raja Muda of Perak have repeatedly asked the rakyat to obey laws and regulations and to be fair in their actions and we Perakians have always looked up to such advice with pride.

Now it is only appropriate and logical for His Highness to declare fresh elections for the state to prevent further deterioration in the administration.

Young and old, the opinion seems to be unanimous. It is only natural and fair that one practices what one preaches.

Meng: How did the Sultan of Perak come to a conclusion that the current Pakatan MB Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin had lost the confidence of the house?

The Pakatan Rakyat government had 32 seats and the Barisan Nasional government had 29 seats.

Three state assemblypersons from Pakatan Rakyat decided to leave to become independent candidates. They did not join Barisan Nasional.

That means the state assembly is now at PR 29:BN 29 and three independents. This is the correct and official set-up of the state assembly.

Whether the three independents say they are ‘BN friendly' or ‘Pakatan friendly' is besides the point because a verbal commitment to either side is not good enough.

For all we know, whatever they said may have been under coercion or duress.

As such it is a hung government. No political party has the majority and the rightful thing to do will be to dissolve the state assembly and call for fresh elections.

The right thing in a democracy will be to go back to the people.

The sultan, who himself is a constitutional lawyer and a former chief justice, would have known exactly what he was doing and why he had decided to confirm the BN-led government and its exco.

In all that we have seen, the Raja Muda and the sultan have always spoken out for justice and the role of royalty in appointing a state or national leader.

Whatever His Highness' reasoning, I only hope that he will shed some light on it so that we ordinary folks can understand how he came to such a decision.

A ratio of 29:29:3 shows that no one is ahead. It is a hung government.

On Court decision 'in contempt of assembly'

Flaneur: Another milestone achieved by Malaysia's judicial system. An Ipoh judge hands down a landmark decision. Malaysia boleh lagi !

This decision makes judicial history and will perhaps be used as a precedent by lawyers for many generations to come.

As from today - if Karpal Singh is wrong - Malaysian courts can determine the convening of legislative assemblies and yes, even determine whether Parliament can go into session.

If Karpal is wrong, then Pakatan Rakyat or any other interested party can go to the Federal Court and get it to declare that Parliament cannot convene or be called into session.

If Karpal is wrong, then in our courts today both the plaintiff and the defendant can get the same lawyer to argue their case.

Think of the enormous savings this would have on the litigants' pockets when their very own lawyer argues and then counter argues his own arguments to convince the judge that both his clients ought to win the case!

Imagine the possibilities of such a scenario. Why, a lot of law books will have to be rewritten and who knows (dare we hope?) this could be adopted by the Commonwealth nations as a breakthrough discovery in law interpretation and procedures.

We would surely achieve our status as Malaysia Bolehland in double quick time if and if Karpal is wrong

On Sivakumar again barred from choosing lawyer

RJ Manecksha: Every person has the right to hire a counsel of his choice. Sivakumar was denied that right by the court.

Was the court informed that Ahmad Kamal is representing the pretender to the office of MB? I doubt it.

Nicole Lim: The speaker as the head of the state assembly should haul up all the clowns who have demoralised the Perak state and charge them for contempt of the state legislature.

The police, the MACC, the judiciary and the state secretary are all in contempt of the state legislature.

It is of no point arguing with these biased authorities.

On Cops to probe Perak reps over illegal gathering

Peter Lee: The cops should do a better job of protecting the rakyat and not harass opposition assemblypersons.

Who are the police to claim that the Perak state assembly held on March 3 was illegal?

Please go and investigate the Kugan case and the Alantuya murder and charge the real culprits instead of serving as tools of Umno.

The rakyat have lost faith in the police. It is in the best interest of the nation that the entire police force be revamped and be made more multi-racial.

Why are the police not charging the 30 Umno supporters who blockaded the Perak state secretariat building that day?

The speaker V Sivakumar should haul up the Perak police chief and charge him with contempt of the state assembly.

On High drama, violence & 'pokok demokrasi'

Thomas Lee: Let's use the rain tree as the official symbol for Pakatan Rakyat.

As a plant, it represents life and growth. Grown outdoor, it symbolises transparency and accountability.

Its deep roots represent firm solid foundation in the good earth of the nation.

The tree also provides shelter and shade to the people, protecting and shielding them.

Its wide branches symbolise the extent of its influence and impact.

Its green leaves stand for things beautiful and pleasant. Above all, the rain tree is a glorious symbol of what is good and true.
