Forest Interactive Foundation launches Bayu Hackathon, calls for forward-thinkers to register

Forest Interactive Foundation launches Bayu Hackathon, a nation-building program that focuses on education enrichment in the field of technology, to empower future innovators capable of developing tech-forward ideas and solutions for Sabah.

Supported by Jawala Plantation Industries and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Sabah, the program will take place from July 29 to July 31, 2022 in the state’s capital city, Kota Kinabalu.

With the tagline Code, Learn, and Meet, Bayu Hackathon is now open for registration to Malaysians aged between 20-30 years old who are currently in their final-year study in university, are fresh university graduates, or are currently looking for job opportunities. Additionally, participants who have previously received formal or informal education in tech-related skills, have an eye for design, or have business-related knowledge and experience are encouraged to apply.

The program aims to gather the brightest minds to develop the next big idea for Sabah, while improving employability through industry exposure as well as entrepreneurship and soft skills development. Shortlisted applicants will undergo an intensive hackathon challenges and workshops that cover resume building, mock interviews, and pitching sessions.

As a part of the hackathon challenge, participants will take part in building an app, game, program, or platform that aligns with the fundamental cornerstone of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly on Quality Education (4), Sustainable Cities and Communities (11), and Life on Land (15).

Through this immersive hackathon program, participants also have the chance to win cash prizes in the following categories:

1. The Best Overall Project: RM3,000

2. The Best Idea: RM2,000

3. The Best Business Pitch: RM1,000

4. The Jury's Award: RM1,000
